Your first trade
Open a position step by step in the Evergreen webapp.
This walkthrough uses the Evergreen webapp. You can follow every step today with your paper account ($10,000.00 of virtual USDG). Real trading will work the same way once wallets go live.
Open a position
- 1Pick a market
Click the market name or press
Ctrl+K(⌘+Kon Mac) to search 37 markets by name or ticker. The ticker bar across the top also switches markets in one click. - 2Choose a direction
Buy / Long profits if the price rises. Sell / Short profits if it falls.
- 3Enter your collateral
The USDG you want to put at risk. Apart from fees, this is the most you can lose on the position.
- 4Set leverage
Drag the slider or pick a preset from 2× to 200×. Your position size is collateral × leverage. Higher leverage means a smaller price move can liquidate you.
- 5Review the summary
Check the position size, entry price, acceptable price (the worst fill you'll accept, 1% away by default), liquidation price and trading fee before confirming.
- 6Open the position
Click Open Long or Open Short. The position appears under Positions with live profit and loss. Click Close to settle it; it then moves to History. With real funds, this step will ask your wallet to sign.
Worked example
You go long Apple with $100 collateral at 10× leverage while AAPL trades at $335.92:
- Position size: $100 × 10 = $1,000 (about 2.977 AAPL)
- Opening fee: $1,000 × 0.05% = $0.50
- If AAPL rises 5%, the position gains about $50, a 50% return on your collateral.
- If AAPL falls to about $303.17 (−9.75%), the position is liquidated.
